The Killer App
If I could choose only one tool or resource to share with others, it would be this one!
Trakt
I’ve been using this service almost daily for a little over 5 years. It’s got many great features that make it my one-stop shop for many movie related activities. The following list highlights some of my favorite uses for this app.
Features
- Track movie plays (and view history).
- View list of actors in a movie, see other movies they were involved in.
- External links to Wikipedia or other information sources.
- Adding movies to a Watchlist.
- Quick look at streaming service or digital purchase availability.
- Read user reviews.
- Rate movies based on your experience.
Why use a service for something like this and not just a spreadsheet or a note on the phone? For me, it’s all about the readily available metadata and historical data.
I enjoy being able to sort through movies based on different factors when picking and choosing my next viewing. Some days I may want to watch an older movie so I could sort my Watchlist by Release Date. Another day, I may want to see a movie by the same director as another movie I watched in the recent past. The filters and sort functions really come in handy for a variety of uses like this.

The banner at the top of this entry (besides being a fantastic movie in my opinion) is an homage the Dark Knight Mode featured in the settings for Trakt!
